I'm starting work on another painting. I'm doing some initial layout & mood roughs to try and nail down the basics first. These are a few roughs that I have done so far.
I'm looking for opinions right now on which one you like the best. Perhaps you like the color in one, but the layout in another. Any feedback is appreciated to help me choose the direction of the painting.
3. It has a great sense of depth and composition can be very interesting if you shift the ship (subject) slightly to one side (doesn't matter which, just don't keep it centered).
4f. My overall favorite. This one already has a great composition and balance and the action seems much scarier, almost like the monster is just toying with them. I prefer it over 4e because the extra tentacle on the right side of 4e is taking attention away from the main subject tentacles.
If you really want to add an additional tentacle, maybe you could place it into the background between the ship and the subject tentacles (or even on the far left side) to give the impression that the ship is surrounded and there is no hope.
No worries, Doug. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on my work all the time.
I'm also a little ashamed that I didn't know you did such awesome work yourself. This pics looks like it's gonna be better than anything I've ever painted! It inspires me to try harder with my next work.
Of course I'm happy to offer any help I can.
My personal picks are 3 and 4f.
